I used to wear a suit to work. After graduation from high school I went looking for better job than the one I had at Target. A family friend knew I was good with computers and wanted to recommend me to her work place. After a few interviews and training days I was accepted and put on the pay roll. The job I got was at Micro Center, as a General Sales Associate a retail position.
It sucked, well towards the end of the job it sucked. One of the requirements of the job is that you were to wear the whole shebang of suit, tie, nice shoes, and dress pants. I was stoked to be working in a space that seemed professional, I felt as though I had achieved working in an office due to the severity of the dress code. I was smiling, talkative with people, and much more confident. Later down the line reality began to seep in, I was having flash backs to when I worked at target. I was cleaning aisles, dealing with customers, and moving stock around. In the beginning I thought I had found a job worth having as if I had stepped up in life, but I found that I was working for less pay in even more expensive clothes.
I was genuinely happy when I started working at Micro Center, I do believe the clothes put me in that state, but he polish faded away eventually. I would have turned down that job had I just been wearing a red polo and khakis. Wasn't all bad though I learned to tie a bow tie.
