The media and certain
cultures have completely different outlooks on other cultures and the way they
react or think about things. For an example, an African American can throw a
party and have loud music and just be having an appropriate time vs someone of
another race who is portrayed to be raised well and intelligent people might
not think of calling the cops or panicking because in the media those races are
viewed different from others, but the way African Americans are portrayed in
society might scare some of the other races, so they might feel as if they need
to call the cops or defend themselves. I feel like the media portrays race in
the way that they see that race in their mind or through experience.
Certain individuals are use to people of certain races acting a certain
way, but all people have their own way of thinking no matter the race or where
they came from, but believing that the way a person is raised could impact how
a person reacts plays a factor into why news media and any type of media put
“Labels” on certain things or people.
Killings in the media is
also something that the media takes to another level because they allow present
events to receive the same labels as past events and just because a person is
the same race as someone else or committed the same things that doesn’t mean
that they had the same train of thought when or before committing a certain
type of behavior. Society Takes what they see in the media and run with it, so
that is how views and stereotypes come into play.
