Remembering what you never experienced

I have an older sister that we always get into arguments about things that have happened in our life. For example, my sister has a scar on her chin. We always argue that I was the one that accidently gave it to her because when we were little she tried to crawl under the swing that I was swinging on. While her story is that she was swinging by herself and she fell off. I think we both have told this story to several different people with what we remember and I feel like this has made us believe both our stories are correct. I never thought about it until just now, while I was reading it I felt wow people are weird this would never happen to me. As I got to the end I was like never mind, this happens to me all the time. I also would like to point out that it doesn’t just happen with siblings mixing up stories. Another example of this was when I was little and my mom was driving me back home from somewhere. It was late at night and for some reason my mother’s makeup was running into her eyes and she couldn’t see well. I saw this and automatically gave her my shirt to wipe away her make up. My mother and I remember that so vividly however when we told the story at a recent family gathering my sister said she knows, she was there. My mother and I were in disbelief, we not even for one second remember my sister being in the car when that happen. This made me wonder since we would always tell the story if my sister made herself believe she was in the story or we completely forgot about her all together.

Since I was a little kind I always wanted a jeep wrangler. I thought they looked cool and I saw so little of them out on the roads that I thought “I’m going to be the first person on my block with a jeep”. As soon as I got my Jeep, all the Jeeps started popping out everywhere. There are currently 5 jeeps (not including mine) within 3 blocks of my house, not only that I see jeeps all the time and everywhere. I stopped feeling special after a couple of days. After a while I knew something like this happened once you paid so much attention to it, but I never thought it would be an actual thing. However, I’m not so down on my purchase of my Jeep, one I love my car and second almost every Jeep Wrangler owner exchanges a wave or a piece sign which I believe means “yeah we own Jeeps, we’re cool”.
