Companies storing our data

The articles discussed how privacy is so important to millennials as a generation and how companies are requesting, and getting, more data than ever before. Honestly, none of that surprises me as, even to be a part of this class, I have had to give up so much data just to attend the university or to even write this post. One thing that stuck out to me was how so many people willingly gave up data even though they were against it. The reasoning "they're going to get it either way" is something that resonates strongly with me as that is something that I believe myself. However, the part that blew my mind was how much data that isn't easily obtainable was signed away because of this logic. While most data is accessible, its not as easy as going to the "Data store" and asking for "Jon Smith's address and best friends info". Obtaining some of the more identifying information requires lots of work yet I've seen a lot of people hand it over for a quiz or a giveaway or some other thing like that.  It really comes down to really considering, would you tell this to some random person on the street? If the answer is not then probably not good to give to some random website/app.
