- Ultimate Game Effect - when violence in video games influences kids to be violent in real life - a sense of control and anger gained by violent actions on-screen
- We are all the NSA: With the advent of social media, it’s very easy to keep in touch with friends and learn as much as we want about other individuals.
- Social Media Maniac - YouTube, Instagram - marketing - getting paid to have an online presence - InstaFamous - using a platform to find your status within the world (social hierarchy)
- Politicianified: Political presence on Twitter - my political opinion matters on Twitter and I feel entitled when people actually agree with me
- The Thirst effect - I’m sexually frustrated and I need everyone to know it b/c TMI is not a thing anymore
- Educational Effect - Using various video clips, drawings, and pictures to support clarification of ideas and get the message across.
- TrendFollower - Influencing fashion trends or following trends shown on Instagram - b/c someone famous is getting praise for the way they dress/act means I'll get that same praise if I copy them
- The Race Card - I’m white so the media can portray me as “relatable” and use a professional photo instead of a mugshot - I can get away (or get a lesser sentence) with murder and rape. If I’m brown - I’m a terrorist… If I’m white - it’s mental illness
- Cyber Pals Theory - Due to the growing popularity of online communities, online friendships are becoming more and more common b/c we find people to be more #relatable
- Animal influence - I value the lives of animals more than humans and I need people on social media to know it
- The Trump Effect - anything he hates, I love - his use of Twitter to further polarize two opposing sides
- Media Validation Theory - Using social media to validate one’s self-worth - posting selfies in order to accumulate likes/comments to encourage my self-esteem
- Travel Blogger Effect- using your looks to be chosen to be flown to exotic locations as long as you promote that hotel - oh and make money while you're at it too - posting on all social media (especially Instagram)
- #Money Effect - using hashtags on Instagram in order to draw more traffic to your account therefore making money off of it (if you have a huge following)
- "I'm so Popular" Effect - posting on social media pictures with all kinds of friends at all kinds of events with the fake "I'm having so much fun" smile (sororities)
