Media - Any information that has been encoded or encrypted in any shape or form by an entity with agency and received and decoded by another entity. Any information that has been given to an audience to make them feel or think a specific way due to visual or hidden cues.
Effect - Changes to an environment or entity due to powers of others and possibly self.
1 Social Echo Chamber - friends and social circles we choose to incorporate with boost our own ideals
2 Highlight Reel Effect - that only good and happy effect float to the levels of observation of others and make people think that their lives are better than the observer.
3 Hot Potato Headline - Articles with headlines and pictures that promote share-ability and vitality for 140 character messages.
4 Conspicuous Media Consumption: Conspicuously consuming 'high-class' media (such as art galleries, expensive streaming services) raises somebody's social status. And social media, like Instagram and Snapchat, can be used to make consumption more visible.
5 Hipster Sharing Effect: The desire to find the 'best' article to share on social media--something that people within a social circle would not have previously seen.
6 Headline Prediction Effect: A salacious headline influences the reader to look through the article looking for proof or an answer to the headline.
7 Spiral of Silence Theory - the opinion that will effect silence of opposing opinions through the illusion of consensus.
8 Mega-phone effect - That smaller groups are able to in current media be heard in ways never before.
9 “Wow, ____ is sexy” effect- the sexualization of things that are not supposed to be sexualized. For example, mlp, video game characters, movie characters, weapons. This mainly comes from tv and movies where they sexualize a lot of things to bring more viewers.
10 “Internet never lies” effect- everything on the internet is not supposed to be taken as facts. For example, microwaving phone for complete battery charge. This came from DIY’s where people like doing things themselves or taking short cuts to make life easier.
11 ” FPS Games are Mass Shooting Sims” effect- the idea that FPS games are supposed to make a person a pro at shooting guns at people. This mainly came from the news media saying that murderers would play these games in order to practice before they actually go out and kill people.
12 “SHIP MUST SAIL” effect- people like to imagine that bands and tv show co-stars must be in a romantic relationship. This came from the tv shows or movies when two actors had a close relationship and people just took it a set forward and started imagining them together in a romantic relationship.
13 “Men’s achievements, women’s defeat” effect- when a man sleeps around it Is made to believe that it is cool, compared to a woman sleeping around it is looked down upon. This mainly came from tv or movies when women slept around they were always portrayed as bad or in a bad situation.
14 “Gotta Catch’em all” effect - the effect when a popular game comes out and people become obsessed with collecting in game items.
15 Cultural Analysis - heavy exposure to media, causing individuals to develop an illusory perception of reality based on the most repetitive and consistent message of a particular medium.
16 “Hero” effect - when children are exposed to Superheroes, they believe that they can be like them one day.
17 ” Help the animals” effect - when sad and helpless animals are shown on tv, and it makes you feel so hurt inside that humans donate money to do all that they can.
18 ” Japan is awesome” effect - when everything that come from Japanese culture is shown to be awesome and celebrated.( Anime,food, style and ex.)
