In a class I previously had taken we learned about how the government and other outlets were monitoring us online. How they would track our history and were able to watch us through our webcams. It just showed how protective and secretive people are about themselves. A couple of my friends and sister are rather paranoid of things like that and have covered their laptop cameras with a small piece of paper. It's so similar to not voicing their opinions online if they're being surveillance. It's most likely because people are scared that they're going to be punished for saying something wrong or doing something that isn't deemed right. Because people are so scared to stand for themselves we might conformed to the higher power. People rather censor themselves than face repercussions.
