Too Much Violence?
These articles argue that violence in media is desensitizing us to violence. This means that we are becoming more tolerant and accepting of violence in our movies, TV and videogames. This is something that has been known for a long time now. As a matter of fact, a few movie studios have been known to send the same movie with little to no changes multiple times in order to get around their censorship. Repeated exposure normalizes the activity making it seem less outrageous and more "normal" or "expected" which is why this works. I do, however, have to disagree with just how extreme this is. The article from Deadline.com states that parents reportedly changed what age was appropriate watch the movie and allowed younger kids to watch it. However, once you read into the article, the age is usually less than a year, a mere difference of months, meaning a much less drastic change overall. Also, a lot of the movies that are being compared are from over 10 years ago. Changes in our society as a whole have made it very easy for kids to be exposed to more crude language as well as violence at much younger ages than before. Kids grow up seeing these things not only in movies and videogames but also in the news. As our society changes so much our ratings for movies in order to accommodate for the current state of our society.
